Abstract
As life expectancy increases, information technology (IT) becomes more pervasive in the life of baby boomers. However, baby boomers, who have experienced a short period of rapid industrialization and informatization, may have a different perception of IT development compared to the younger generation. Considering there was no preceding research on the matter, this paper aimed to examine the various perceptions and attitudes toward IT of South Korean baby boomers, This paper used Q Methodology to identify baby boomers` perceptions. An initial questionnaire (Q sample) was composed through literature review and interviews with actual baby boomers. From the initial items, 35 statements on the impact of IT on the biological, psychological, and social aging process, expectation of utilization, and policy suggestion and direction were selected after revision. The researchers recruited 27 participants considering their sex, age, and educational level. From the perspective of successful aging, three types of communication and participation utilizing IT, demanding IT for health promotion, and self-support through information access were deduced as the result of the study. These results suggest practical and policy implications for the application of IT to improve the quality of life in future.
